Doctor Advice
As effective as the efforts of our crew may be in
creating a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere during the flight,
the actual conditions on the plane can cause some passengers discomfort
from time to time. Passengers might feel a tightening of the skin
on their face, a tickling sensation in the nose, throat and eyes
due to the level of humidity on the plane; pain or stuffiness
in the ears due to the fluctuations in the cabin pressure; dizziness,
nausea or stomach aches due to acceleration. These conditions
can be further aggravated by long periods of immobility, brought
on by sitting for a number of hours at a time. Some experts believe
that clots, which form in the blood vessels of the legs, can lead
to serious thrombosis among frequent fliers. In order to reduce
this risk, passengers are recommended to follow the advice of
their doctors.
Smoking on-board
The results of a poll conducted among Aeroflot’s
passengers have shown that 66% of them support the ban on smoking
on-board. In addition, the State Duma has recently passed a draft
law “On restrictions on tobacco smoking” at work, in public places
and on means of transport, including air transport. As a result,
Aeroflot believes that it has a moral obligation to help preserve
the health all passengers.
From March 31.2002 all Aeroflot flights are non-smoking.
Experts claim that 43% of smokers can easily refrain
from smoking over ten hours at a time (for example, the flight
from Moscow to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky lasts 9 hours 30 minutes).
The average time other smokers can abstain from
smoking is four hours (a flight from Moscow to Paris or London
is approximately 3 hours 40 minutes).
At the recommendation of doctors, we now offer smoking
passengers anti-nicotine chewing gum.
